from Exeter Express and Echo (April 09, 2009):
Colin Shaddick, from Barnstaple, took the bronze at the Greatest British Eccentric of the Year 2009 awards at the Arts Club in Mayfair on April 1.
Colin was shortlisted as one of nine nominees, with Lord Bath, Vivienne Westwood, Catherine Tate, Sebastian Horsley, Ray Frensham (who came second), Dave West, Barry Kirk, and Rob Lowe (who won the competition).
The of judges included Henry Hemming, the author of In Search of the English Eccentric.
Colin said: "This is a great honour for me. The Eccentric Club has revived another great tradition and I was proud to be part of it.
"I would like to thank all those pubs, clubs and open mic sessions (especially in North Devon) that gave me the opportunity to develop my eccentric performances. Without them, I would not have received a reward.
"To those establishments who made it clear they didn't want me: don't bother asking me now."
